Crap frame, semi decent parts and wheels, sweet stem.
It's really comfy, but I want something new, something that's good.
So this is the current road bike. It's a bit of a departure from what I was riding this time two years ago ( giant carbon 1sl weight weenie special 🙂 )
I lost the love for road cycling until I saw this frame at the local tip on Christmas Eve 2012.
its a Geoffrey butler Reynolds 531 frame and fork which I paid £5 for.
The wheels are stans alpha pro 340s which are 1250 grams the pair.
It's 1x9 with dura ace shifter ,rear mech and cassette
Kcnc bars,stem and isis crank and skewers
The seatpost is an old carbon superstar which was chopped with a selle SLR saddle
The brakes are Planet X cnc milled single pivot with Swiss stop pads and Shimano r600 levers.
It's a mongrel but it rides really well and put the fun back into spinning the miles

Race bike, and I mean race only bike. Giant TCR. SRAM Force throughout. Deda Superzero finishing kit. Giant P-SLR1 wheels. The wheels are superlight yet ultra rigid and specifically chosen for UK shorter races and crits. I didn't see the point of heavier aero yet cheaper carbon wheels, and I wasn't interested in looks.

I love this slightly dated bike, it's well crafted T800. Again I could have bought good looking, but for the purpose of it's existence function over forms matters more.

TooTall - clearly the most accurate username to date!
Mine is an old Peugeot frame (not that old mind) Sti shifters complete with a set of pink halo twin rails. I like cos it looks odd and goes for miles despite only costing me £40 from a mate!

Shimano cassette.
Kmc chain.
A real mix on the drive side of things but it's the best shifting bike I have ever owned and I have owned a few. The frame is as stiff as a monks cock but very responsive.

Totally original save for tires, brake shoes and chain. For no other reason than its such a good bike I've never found cause to upgrade anything.
Had it over 10 years and don't see me replacing it any time soon. I'll be doing Barcelona ironman on it in October.

Trek 1.7 - nowt special Alu frame, carbon fork. Full 105 though.
It lets me get around the nice countryside quicky and comfortably. Damn good for fitness when the weather is crap too.
This is my Bianchi. It's probably one of the lower end road bikes that I've owned but it's my favourite. For a start I've always wanted a Bianchi but it also rides better than anything else I've ridden.

Love it because, well, first of all because it didn't cost me anything - you know the 'Rapha Rising' thing on Strava, where the 1st prize was a bike, well that's it, all those days spent riding up hills paid off! 🙂
One off paintjob means you don't get it confused with anyone elses, outside any cafes and, although I must admit I wasn't massively impressed with the difference between it and my PLanet X Superlight Team when I first got it, it's earned a place in my heart by being utterly ace while riding in Tenerife.
Amazingly comfy all day long, brilliant handling on the descents and nice and light when you have to carry it up the stairs back at the hotel 🙂

That's a 5500, not the 5900. The 5900 was made of OCLV 110 carbon, the 5500 was OCLV 120, I had one, very good it was too.

What I like about it is the geometry/fit is sorted so you ride it and forget about it. Oversize steel (most people think its aluminium) so it's no noodle but ride all day comfort. It's also a one of a kind paint-job
Best thing is the price. £4.5k bike that cost me £500 and a day of my time. 8)

2008 Felt F65 with basic ish build inc. tubeless.
It's nice and comfortable. 18.5lb, tubes are straight and round, it was cheap and there isn't an ounce of bling on it.
A slightly sad one this, just spent the afternoon breaking up my old road bike I built in college, it had been languishing in my brother's garage in wales for quite a while. Leaving this thoroughly written off old 80's Harry Quinn Frame

Cheap 2nd hand Condor Squadra frame and forks bought to replace my Lynskey 'dream bike'.
Campag chorus 11 speed groupset, 3T bars, Spesh carbon/zertz seatpost, Deda stem, Open Pro/105 front wheel, Kysirium SL rear here but now an Open Pro/Hope rear, Gatorskins.
Not super bling or expensive, but a solid workhorse that makes me smile.
Specialized Langster SS winter bike. Deda bars and stem, Tifosi carbon post, spesh saddle, Open Sport rims built onto the original spesh hubs, Rubino pros, Profile BMX chain tensioners, Topeak DeFender RC11 mudguards.
Bought as standard complete bike 2nd hand for couple of hundred quid. New wheels transformed it into my go-to bike for solo rides and winter miles.

Giant SCR4, never going to turn any heads but it's a perfectly serviceable bike that's slightly less entry level than when I bought it. Old Ultegra cranks, even older 105 rear mech, planet x wheels. Next to go will be the steel fork and 2300 stis.

My 2008 Madone 5 series pro. Bought it as a frameset and built with full DA 7800, Bontrager RXL wheels (the last ones made with DT 240 hubs), XXXL bars and stem. It has a Selle Italia SLC saddle in the pic, but now has a Fizik Aliante carbon saddle which fits me much better. Also, now I have tubeless Hutchison tyres and no headset spacers...

Here's mine when I first bought it. Have since slammed the stem, replaced the lugano tyres and fitted spd sl's. And it's currently 1x9 til I get a new front mech. Whilst I wouldn't say I love road biking, I do really like being able to get out and have a decent ride without having to load my bike into the car or anything. Plus it's fast.

Here's mine, Boardman Comp that I got for just over £300 from eBay about four years ago. Standard apart from the wheels, I completely smashed the front and replaced with some cheap Aksium's that I got for £60, bar tape and saddle.
As _tom_ says, I like to being able to just go from the door for a decent ride.

Have to say, an awesome finish on the frame, and it's great to a bike where everything works so smoothly. Only downside is some toe-overlap, which I hear is a common prob, so I'll just get used to it I guess.

Plenty of planned upgrades but nothing that needs doing straight away.
Nice frame, but that's a big ol' head tube! I'd always rather have 20mm of spacers and a shorter head tube myself. Purely aesthetic.

A thin 2mm spacer between headset and stem with stem pointed the right way is all that is required, anything else is ugly. 1cm is just about allowed if there are gaps between sizes.
I guess it's the march of the fat-gut mamil that has increased the sales of spacers.
