Just over a week ago I damaged my hamstring, got a massive bruise on my leg and a bit of a limp.

O went round the block yesterday on the bike and it didn't hurt but am I going to make it worse or increase recovery time by doing this.

Should I just stay off the bike just now or carry on as long as it doesn't hurt

What makes you think you have torn your hamstring? Sounds like a bruise on your leg.

Ask a doctor, not a bunch of middle managers, but if it feels fine it probably is.

I've torn mine twice in the last 11 months. Both times took quite a while to heal up, lots of physio and exercises at home to strengthen it. Both took some time off the bike then careful build-ups again.

Oh and it hurt a lot. You'd know about it if you had done it I reckon.

Have you seen a physio?

I have seen a doctor and he said it was torn. He reckoned by the time I got a physio appointment it would be healed

Haha that's good to hear it read as if there was a bit of self diagnosis going on.

On that basis it sounds minor, and unless he told you to do nothing, then ride your bike. I have no idea if it'll be better or worse for healing (though I suspect doing nothing will be worse than something, and doing too much will be worse than both), but it'll be more fun as you'll get to ride your bike. Avoid anything too painful.

That is what I was thinking as well. I am only going to go out on some flat road for less than a mile just now

I injured my hamstring running last year and my physio said cycling would be fine. In fact he claims he did the haut route with a heavily injured hamstring. In my case it didn’t seem to affect it, though I avoided really steep hills.

As somebody else has said though, listen to advice from strangers on the internet at your own peril.

IANAD but should be absolutely fine IMO, providing you are not in the bad habit of heavily pulling up on the clipless pedal heading up to 12 o' clock.
