I've tried to do a search, but nothing's come up that'll quite answer my question. So has anyone done any actual research into what's the shortest fork you can fit a Knard into?
I want to turn my old ss tinbred into something for the sandy trail I know near my parents place. I've got a 26" on one carbon fork and that's good for a 2.4" 29er Racing Ralph, but I don't think anything much larger will fit. Then I've seen it fit on a niner carbon, but that's probably a little long for my intended purpose.
Maybe all the options will be too long and I should go for a fat fronted tinbred instead.
I'm told 3" is not wide enough for sand (let alone what you might get on the rear).
They are sandy trails, with occasional meter long sections of deeper sand, rather than trying to ride on the actual beach.
I'm running a Knard on a Dually rim in my 445mm AtoC Salsa Cromoto with adequate room to spare. I wouldn't want to go much shorter as it's the height rather than the width I imagine would be the issue.
I ride in and around Thetford and that's surprisingly sandy in places. It's much better than the 2.4 Ardent it replaced but I imagine a full blown fat tyre would be better again.
Hummmm, I think an on one fatty fork and a proper fat wheel might be best.
The fatty fork is the same length as the Niner iIRC.
Thanks! That would have been a schoolboy error. Any other fat forks out there as short as the Jones unicrown that aren't so expensive?
The std 100mm spaced Pugsley forks would suit.
Happy with a 4" fat tyre and a 29er+ tyre.
About £100.
Win and indeed Win.
I'm sure it's closer than that on my 425mm Cromoto. Possibly different rim?
I've found it's not so much the knard but more the rim width. For example, my knard on a rabbit hole will not fit my 445mm salsa cromoto, but if I mount it on my flow ex it will. So the question is what rim are you gonna use?
Hope that helps
Interesting.
A Knard on a Dually fits fine in my 445mm Cromoto.
Does the extra 5mm rim width make that much of a difference? 😕
No I'm lying.
Seriously, I spent a fair bit of money on a built up rabbit hole and knard only to find out wouldn't fit. It went in at around 15 - 20 psi but the knobs still rubbed quite badly against the fork. I'm thinking of 'modifying' the fork ever so slightly to make it work.
It's the width on the jones Unicrown that's good - 135mm spaced. The length is only 435mm.
That's an interesting looking frame- Knard in the back too! What is it?
Its a home built frame buy a chap over on the MTBR forum.

Non suspension corrected too 8)
Damn! I knew I should have gone with a dually!
I've kind of given up on the idea. My Ragley td1 is designed around a 440mm fork. So I'm thinking to maintain the geometry with a knard I would need a 425mm a to c. White bros do a 425 rock solid, which would be perfect i reckon, but I don't want to pay more money out. Ah well.
