I desperately need a new shock, I've had my fox dhx air on the bike since bought in 2010, never serviced and been to the alps 3 times.
I've found the measurements as 190 x 50 but am wondering if it matters too much if a put in something like a 200 x 57??

depends on the bike but it will obviously change the travel and will affect the geo. What bike is it?
If it will fit, it'll steepen the angles - not what you want these days to be Gnar!
Fox DHX Air is the perfect shock to get upgraded to full Avalanche internals - I'd be doing that instead of replacing it!
It's got a slightly longer eye to eye but just run more sag, easily done with an extra 57mm travel as opposed to the 50mm of travel you have now.

7mm more stroke can be a LOT more travel. Maybe the frame will hit itself as well...
