Hi folks, I´m really fed up with my Formula R1 constant rotor rubbing so I´m looking for some replacement.
Shimano brakes in general have the "fit and forget" reputation and that´s exactly what I´m looking for.
I´d just like to know, if there is any significant difference between pad clearance of XTR Race and XTR Trail.
Based on what I have seen and tried at my LBS, Trails pad clearance is really generous, Race model seems to be noticeably tighter (probably due to absence of Servo Wave lever) but that´s all on new bikes with pads not burnished.
Is there anyone with real world experience, ideally riding both Race and Trail models?
I´m more after the Race model, as I don´t need either tool-less reach adjustment or Free Stroke adjustment (what I have heard does almost nothing anyway) Plus, I really like their smooth lever feel.
But if the pad clearance is significantly better on Trail model, I would probably take those, cause I dont´t really want to spend hours in garage adjusting the calipers again.
Or the other (and maybe the most "rational") option would be saving some money and buying SLX, which should have the same power, but they come at much heavier package and I don´t like their design too...
Thanks for any help!
I also gave up on the R1's as the constant rubbing could not be cured.
I now use the XTR Race brakes and the difference in terms of maintenance and ease of use, the difference between them and the R1's is night and day. Truely fit and forget as you might expect.
The pad clearance is very generous by comparison to the R1's and I have never had any unintended rotor rub. I can't see you needeing any more pad clearance so in response to your question- the Race version will do you more than fine 🙂
Thanks, that´s what I wanted to hear 🙂
