Over the last month my rear brake has began to fade and after a stinky wet ride on the weekend I checked the oil and it was dirty.

I have flushed it through and put in new clean mineral oil and it seems to feel pretty good. However, i did notice that as i was doing the final top i could see little clouds of darker/dirt oil come up into the reservoir through lever piston as I squeezed the lever.

Do i have a leak on the lever or is there some residue left over from the previous oil.

Just residual old oil I'd say. I've had that in my xt's and other brakes and they've been fine. I normally try and flush it through good .

Residue, nothing to worry about

As above ^^^. It's fine. I was bleeding mine today after doing some hose shortening and I had to move loads of oil through them before the residue was gone and the residue isn't really that harmful anyway.
