I hope this is a simple question but I fear it isn't ๐
With a standard wired GX drivetrain, can you run a Shimano 12 speed shifter and mech? Assuming UDH as the default hanger (not transmission). Internet seems to suggest Yes, No and Maybe.
So all 12 speed: Shimano Shifter, GX Crank, Chain, Cassette Shimano SGS mech.
To the question of "why would you want to do that" the answer is "I am not taking any further questions at this time" ๐
Thanks all ๐
Yeah not AXS/Transmission. I do have the option to run a wireless version but I don't really want to start using SRAM when all my other TX stuff is Shimano. ย All early days, but really useful to know this is an option.
XT shifter and mech here with X01 cassette and chain on one bike. Deore shifter and mech with GX cassette and X01 chain on the other. They're arguably better than a all Shimano set up as in my experience you can't back pedal on a 51T Shimano cassette without it dropping the chain.
Thanks @Gribs- an unexpected benefit ๐
SRAM cassettes way outlast Shimano too, and are lighter (GX lighter than XT)

IMO Shimano still shifts better, especially when asking for multiple shifts at once, the original Hyperglide patent was to allow the gates to line up so in theory when you shift the chain can engage diagonally across the cassette without skipping whereas other cassettes only let it jump one sprocket at a time.
