Do you always need fresh olives when you change Shimano Hydraulic hoses over between new sets of Levers? I have a set of levers but dont't fancy cutting down the hoses any further.
Will I get fluid everywhere and then die?

You could try, the worst that can happen is the olive won't conform to the lever inner and leak.
You can if you're very careful cut the old olive off, but its pretty tricky to do without chewing up the hose.

If the fitting to the lever is different you'll have to remove the olive to change it anyway.
