New bike, new GRX groupset. Front brake comes a bit too close to the bars and closer than the rear. I have bled it a few times and there is definitely no air in it. Have done all the recommended tricks incl rotating, tapping, bottom up, top down etc. Using the yellow bleed block the travel is minimal, but when i put the pads in it is a bit too much. Have tried winding out the bite point adjuster and the lever reach etc, but still a bit too close.
I can take it back to LBS for them to have a look but thought I’d see if any ideas here first.
Did you bleed them with the bite point adjuster wound in or out?
Wound in
Wind it out and have another crack at bleeding them would be my plan.
Thanks, will try that. By wound in I mean that the screw was tight meaning that the bite point is the way it came as new, ie closest to bar setting
Have you tried the levers when riding, or only in the stand?
My RS785s feel like they have too much travel until I actually try to stop with them and then discover they're absolutely fine!
Watching this as planning on getting some grx/ultegra levers soon.
My GF has ultegra hydro bike and im pretty sure you can adjust the lever reach. Are the left and right both set the same?
Also when faced with this i have heard of people using a block 1mm thinner than the yellow bleed block. Its a fudge, but seems to work!
scotroutes, I noticed it first ride, but it wasn’t actually hitting the bars, even when locked, but definitely a good 4 or 5mm further in than the back one when locked up. Have bled twice since so will give them a hurl tomorrow as I did get a bit of air out.
breninbeener, have has a play with those settings and they originally were, and now again are, set the same each side
Is this that godawful dayglow orange thing? take it back and get yer ebike back man, have some pride in yersel!
^^^^^ it’s a belter isn’t it 😜. Brill bike to ride round the windfarm gravel. Have messaged Dave for his words of wisdom, would rather fix myself but if he needs it back to sort then I can make an essential journey over the border to the shire 😀
Aye, a belter describes it very well!
An update, I think I have sorted it. Various online tips talk about the need to get the front of the bike angled really low to the floor when in the stand, and do the lever pull at same time as releasing bleed nipple, obviously with funnel on reservoir. I eventually had it as close to vertical as I could without daylighting the funnel and got more and more air out.
In hindsight if I’d taken the caliper off and positioned it so the nipple was at the highest point while doing the same process I’d have done it in minutes.
Oh, and the rubber they have used for the GRX hoods is pretty poor and is now quite stretched and baggy after being back to allow the funnel to be fitted 4 times...much less flexible and shape retaining than 105 and Ultegra rubber ones.
