Chain whip and lock ring removal tool in place but will not budge after a couple of hours of soaking in wd40 and plenty of force applied, its a 'new' 12 year old bike so not sure if cassette ever removed, can they be fused together like the seat post and tube are on same bike (which isnt a problem as ideal height)
Any ideas?
Never seen one seize. Try more leverage. Or a new freehub.
What he said ^
Can be very tight. Give it some welly. Hold the removal tool in with the QR and get a 2 or 3 ft lever on the spanner and chainwhip
Copius amounts of PlusGas overnight and try again
WD40 isn't much use as a penetrating agent and PlusGas is far more effective
Will give it more wellie after a good soaking tonight, maybe its sign to warn me against single speed??
LBS? They will have the experience and tools. Mine charged a pittance, and it was worth it to save the wheel and time. Might even do it free if you buy the casette. Failing that find some pipes as above.
tool in lockring secured by qr, place tool in a bench vice, then use a chainwhip and a long leverage bar.
Apply a little heat with a blowtorch or similar, works everytime. Be sure to thouroughly re-grease the area afterwards though!
Ensure you have the right remover, some fit into the body and undo the whole block, as opposed to a lockruing which is a relatively modern idea.
Not many people still use a screw on block these days though.Just to clarify what hub is this on?
