Not right is it?
On smallest cogs.
Do I need to remove a link?
Any advice gratefully received.

you shouldn't use small to small but that is not right

Loop the chain over big and big not going thru the mech - add 2 links and that is the right length

place chain round largest rear cog and largest chain ring (don't run it through the rear mech) and it should only overlap by 2 links, remove any extra one, an job's a good'un

Many thanks. Probably should have mentioned that the big ring is actually the middle ring, but I expect that won't make any difference.

Despite it being wrong I had no problems with it over the weekend. Still needs fixing tho.

just a quickie regarding chain length, i know its a silly question but whats classed as a full link???? when you say add two full links, would you remove 1 full one if you had a powerlink?

is there a diagram of what 2 full links are? i know its a numpty question but would like to be sure ๐Ÿ™‚

go small to small, through the derailleur, and allow enough length so the chain just clears the bottom of the mech.

big big without mech and then add 1 link* is what I heard (and use)

1 link being a set of inner AND a set of outer plates.

Rear mech will be pretty stretched in big/big but won't bind/jam

edit to clarify, big big without mech, pull chain tight, i presume you have an inner at one end, line it up so that it matches an outer plate that would just about fit round the big big then add a full link (inner and outer plates) mark the chain there and split. If you are using a power link you'll want to remove the end outer plates too. bit tricky to explain without pics

Oh sheldon has some pics here

One "full" link = two pitches = 1".
In other words, a full link is an outer plus an inner link.
