Hi guys,

Looking for a little advice regarding my bike. Somehow got the rear mech in the wheel which ended up ripping it upwards taking the mech hanger, the chain and the skewer all poiting upwards.

Issue I have is that teh frame is carbon and has taken and has taken a bit of a chunk out along with some pretty unsightly grazing. Had a good email from the distributor to say the area wasn't structural but owuld advise to get it sealed to stop water and dirt delaminating the carbon. So whats the best way to do this?

Any help appreciated and there's a link below for photies if you like.

Clear nailvarnish works a treat, scratched some roadforks and thats what I used, no problem since.

I read somewhere to use superglue for sealing the rough edges of carbon fibre.

Araldite or the epoxy stuff they use on model gliders or glass fibre car bumper repairs maybe?

superglue wont work (i did my thesis/disertation on glueing things to carbon fibre)

best bet is anything epoxy based, just be sparing, dont want to be weakening the stuff underneath with solvents.

Find a low temp slow set epoxy, not Bostik or B&Q epoxy, something built for the task, from a composites parts place. Look for something like West Systems resin, and if you are really anal, cut it back with polishing paste and spray it with Ultravar lacquer.

if your worried get in touch with

Tel: 01603 713972
Fax: 01603 713972

i put a hole in my carbon frame, and cracked it around the bb shell. sent it off to hq, and they fixed it up, like brand new, apart from the two patches look different to the original weave. 40 quid for a full repair, (on mine) including postage.
