Me and a mate are thinking of cycling coast to coast on MTB's and wondering if anyone can suggest some good routes? It would probably be a 3 day trip staying in bothies and/or B&B. Trails and tracks would be good with a bit of road if needed. Cheers. I'd love to do Fort William to Montrose but that will have to wait.
Ullapool to Bonar Bridge ๐
I'm writing one up at the moment. I did it last week. I took 3 1/2 days, but the first two were pretty short days. My original plan had been to do it in 3, but it was just the way the trains to Fort William worked out.
Day 1 - Fort William to South Laggan via the Great Glen Way
Day 2 - South Laggan to Laggan via the Corrieyairack.
Day 3 - Laggan to Grantown-on-Spey via Etteridge, Loch Insh and Aviemore.
Day 4 - Grantown to Buckie via the Speyside Way.
There's some road work in there and if I was doing it again, I'd avoid some more of the Speyside Way. The blog explains/will explain....

Thanks everyone, some interesting looking routes there. I've had another idea and that's driving to Aviemore and cycling to Bob Scott's bothy and back via the Lairig Ghru. It's not coast to coast but it would be amazing.
I hope you're prepared for A LOT of carrying....
Braemar to Bob Scott's bothy is easy though - might take you an hour. Grand place to spend the night. Beware though, last time we stayed there, half a dozen guys appeared out of the undergrowth and demanded ID cards.
We had none, they sloped back into the woods, covered in special service's netting and carrying SA-80s. The Queen was in town......
