Schwalbe Rocket Ron...

[Closed] Schwalbe Rocket Rons - Are they too fragile for Lakes/Peaks etc?

Just looking at some new tyres and these seem really light for a proper 2.25 wide tyre. The only concern is why are they so light, i'm assuming a lack of material is the reason.

Anybody use them for an everyday tyre on rocky trails or are they more a race only tyre?

Ta

i managed to rip a small hole in the side of one in the cotswolds, they are light for a reason. Don't get them near sharp rocks.

worst tyre Ive ever used the rocket ron took it to wales and the rocks killed it twice even with really high pressure the side walls compress too much and snake bite,

wouldnt concider ever putting it back on as most of my riding is in the peaks.

I took some to the Sierra Nevadas (lots of sharp rocks!) and they survived just fine. However, a guy on a trailbreak a couple of weeks ago had a 1" gash in his and that put me right off. The Schwalbe website also says something like "caution: superlite, racing only!".

I'd go for Snakeskin Racing Ralphs next time. Shame as I really like the RoRo tread pattern but they don't seem to do them in 29er snakeskin. ("Snakeskin" is the Schwalbe name for the reinforced sidewall version - I'm not some sort of MTBing Rod Stewart)

Would you risk a featherlite condom with a 10 dollar hooker, or would you be buying extra thick ones and double bagging?

Same scenario IMO!

A smallish rock about the size of my thumb punched right through the middle of the tread on my rear (and both outer and inner surfaces of the tube, and the rim tape!), I reckon it was bad luck more than anything but I've never seen that happen to any tire before in 20+ years of riding

I've used rocket rons in the lakes and the peaks without any problems, but I'm pretty light on kit, and I did still manage to put a small mysterious hole in one of mine, which I discovered when I tried to make it tubeless. If you're worried about them, then you'd probably be better off with a weightier tire.

Personally i would not from the look of them and reports of how easy they get cut
YMMV

I alrady have one, just contemplating buying one for the rear, but it sounds as though what I was thinking was right, they are fragile. Cheers for the offer Junkyard.
