[Closed] Scanning prints and transparencies - any companies you'd recommend?

Hi all,

I have many boxes of family prints and transparencies (slides) that I want converting to digital. There's way too many to bother doing it myself (certainly hundreds, maybe thousands!) - does anyone know of a company that I can send them all to (or even better drop them off, or they collect) and will do all of the scanning for me?

Thanks,
Nick

There are pro labs which will do this for you, but they will charge a small fortune. My local pro lab charges £1.60 for one low res 35mm scan.

If you've got a bit of spare time in the evenings, you could do worse than buying a flatbed scanner with neg scanning capabilities - I use a refurbished, top end Canoscan one which produces pretty good results from colour negs / transparencies. It'll do 24 negs at once, but takes about 40 minutes for a decent file size.

Why do you want to convert them to digital?

The vast majority of them are family pics of me and my brothers growing up. Since our parents are no longer around, we want a simple way for us all to have copies of all the photos, so I thought digitizing them would be a good option.
To be honest, I don't object to paying a company to do this (the cost will be spilt three ways, so probably not too bad per brother), but I want to be able to manage them all easily and keep them with my other [digital] photos.
