Does anyone know if you can buy pure, no sugar, electrolyte powder anywhere? I'm chomping through the tabs at the moment and it's costing me a fortune!
Cheers.

Not a powder/tablet, but try Elete which is a liquid.

Surely you could just make it yourself with some salt, sugarfree orange squash and if needed a dash of sweetex or canderell

This is around a tenth the price of the tablets you can buy, think we're being had!

The electrolyte / energy powder that Decathlon make is half the price again - £15 for 2kg. Works for me.

Aptonia is the 'brand' - nice citrus flavours too.

'lo-salt' has potasssium chloride too (about 35-40% iirc); meant for people with heart probs or worries about too much salt, but for super-budget electrolyte mix it is potentially a bit more useful than normal salt. I'm not enough of an athlete to tell if it's as good as 'zero'/motor tabs and the like.

The MyProtein electrolyte powder does not dissolve in water however (even after a long time) so it is a bit annoying. If you use it you have to remember to shake your drinks bottle before taking a swig.

If you are using a hydration pack however you will get a very concentrated solution early on and then nothing later. I stopped buying it for that reason. I find common or garden sea salt does just as well and it does dissolve in your drink.

The other alternative is to use unflavoured Zero tablets if you have your own flavouring or flavoured ones if you don't.

The My Protein stuff is good but I can't use it with plain water as it's so salty. It works well with 1/3 squash and 2/3rds water or 50% water / 50% apple juice so much so I don't need to buy SIS Go anymore.

Why do you think you need to take in salts and/or electrolytes?

I work outdoors in 40 degree heat. I go to the gym twice a day. I cycle at the weekend in it. I sweat enough in the uk!

Yeah, some people, like me, sweat out all their salts and get BAD cramps.

Making your own electrolyte must be possible but I suppose you need to sample what you're sweating out. Bivalet (Divalent?, I forget) ions are important - Calcium and Magnesium as well as monovalent Sodium and Potassium.

I have a hunch that the monovalents are useful in re-hydration wheras cramps are reduced by bivalents.

Any biochemists on this forum?
