Previously had a Hope which was ok and was relatively easy to close, but didn't clamp the seat post firmly enough.
Got a Salsa Flip Lock and it works very well, with no slippage. BUT when it gets muddy, its VERY difficult to close, because crud goes in between the CAM on the lever and jams it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? (Please dont suggest a dropper)
Im considering making some sort of rubber gaiter to shield it from crap.
New Paul QR with internal cam. Or an old Shimano.
Old Shimano don't come with collars, they needed the seat tube bosses IIRC.
I don't really want to buy ANOTHER QR!
They do but you can find alu collars seperately.
the salsa QR's you need to keep greased up regularly. more than any I've used before.
The design places alu on alu at the cam, most will have either nylon/plastic (wears quick) or brass (ala hope) to help smooth things out. Salsa doesn't have any.
I used to have to take mine apart every 6 months and work it with fining grit of wet and dry to keep the two surfaces nice and smooth. Not really ideal for MTBing.
Buy a really cheap QR with a brass bush and add that to your Salsa one.
