Thinking of builing up a nice burly touring mtb and have these two in my sights. frame only would be the order of the day and build up with my own spec so was wondering whats your thoughts on either, i onoe the fortitude is pretty new though.

should i look at anything else? it'll be used for full on offroad plus touring and other like minded adventures.

many thanks

I'm pretty much about to order a Fortitude Adventure as I want an MTB that can turn it's hand to some touring and also take guards.

I just need to decide if I want to buy a complete bike or just the frame.

Don't forget that if you want to carry anything on the frame, then you need the Adventure model as I don't think the single speed and race Fortitudes have any mounts fitted.

The Adventure model can also only be run as a single speed or with an internal geared hub.

Surly Ogre? I'm hankering after a Troll myself as I've already got the Alfine wheelset in 26 flavour and fancy the idea of a bit of touring, plus chariot towing duties and it looks like a pretty decent allrounder.

Salsa el Mariachi is what I bought for this purpose. Need to order a frame bag as it does not have rear mounts though. The alternator drop outs are great for option of going IHG or dinglespeed.

Or a fatty make a fantastic all terrain adventure bike ๐Ÿ˜‰

Or Surly LHT if it is mainly road & light offroad...

one is drop bars and the other for flat/ riser/ alt bars.

that's quite a fundamental difference isn't it?

i'd try drops on the Fortitude if i chose that. any Fargo owners? how do they ride unladen as a "normal" mtb?

One of the reasons I was going for the Fortitude Adventure. I'd rather have flat bars for off road riding.
