Hi,

I'm going to be staying in Loch Melfort next week and hoped someone could recommend me some good riding near by. I know Fort William is not far away, but I'll be with the family so I'm looking for stuff really near by that I can nip out on for an hour or so without much of a drive to eat time. Any thoughts anyone?

Cheers!

From the front door there's a good 20 mile circular route of which 75% is off road on forestry or land rover track. Head west on the north shore of Loch Melfort along the minor road until just before Degnish. Take the track signposted "Wishing Tree / Bealach Gaoithe". You then reach another minor road which takes you past Auchnasaul to Loch Seil. At the south end of Loch Seil turn off the road and on to a track which takes you through Raera Forest and back to Melfort. You have to pick your way through the forest but it's straightforward if you can read or map or simple if you have GPS.

A bit further away but not too far are some tracks through Inverliever Forest on the south side of Loch Avich.

Thanks for the thoughts. Had a look on the map and think I can pick out that route. Think I'll go and have a look around there. The wishing tree sounds intriguing!
