Are there any decent 2-3 hour XC/local loops leaving straight out of Windermere, Lakes?
I know about the stuff on the west side of the Lake, towards Grizedale, and also the Garburn, Kentmere/Staveley area etc. but would be a bit time and light constrained (I'm on a short visit to the relatives). I'm thinking possibly there might be a loop or two out towards Winster/Lindeth?
All wisdom gratefully received.
There's not much really ... could go to Ambleside and back via Jenkin Crag I suppose.
If you take the ferry over the lake I reckon you could do a quick loop over Claife heights and Sawrey, and still get back in that sort of time?
3 hrs would be enough for Garburn from Windermere
Up dubs road and down through troutbeck caravan Park for a quick blast
There are trails round great tower/winster, not amazeballs and slightly tricky to navigate but there's a route in the vertebrate book I think
Could even ride up dubs and do ill bell and back down south end of High Street. Jenkins cragg- Loughrigg terrace and back
Jenkin Crag to Ambleside, maybe back over Wansfell to Troutbeck, Kirk Lane then road to Wmere?
Thanks for the ideas.
I’ve never ridden over Jenkin Cragg but a quick squizz on the net reveals a gpx file (BikeTreks pages) and suggestions for a couple of other routes in the area. Lashing it onto a jaunt up Dubbs might be a goer.
