Soiled the pads and rotor with bad things. Using it as an opportunity to replace. Theyre M447 Deores, so standard square pads.

Any centrelock rotor/pad combo to be recommended? Will be plumping for Saint Rotor/ Awe semi metallic pads at this rate.

Cheers

Best advice, get a bigger rotor, it’ll have more of an effect than anything else.
Changing pads/brakes etc will make very little difference, changing rotor size= instant results.

When I was after some reasonably priced rotors earlier this year, I went with SLX/Zee (RT66?) . Not daft money and no complaints.

Defo go for the biggest rotors your frame and forks will take. You'll need to budget a few quid for a new adaptor.

I'd forgotten about this logic.

Bumping myself up from 180 to 203 then. SLX RT70 rotor. Forks(Yari 140) can take it. Got a spare mount somewhere.

Tally ho. Thanks all.

Hmm. A few years ago there was a school of thought that bigger rotors didn’t get as hot and therefore didn’t bed the pads in as well.... leading to poorer braking performance. Or something.

I've just bought a new 140 rotor as I just noticed my old one (about 12 years old) has worn from 1.9mm down to less than 1mm above the arms! I find it plenty powerful for a old skool hardtail/SS...160mm on the front 🙂 I think there is a balancing act, go too big and you'll never get the disc hot enough to burn off the crap.

The exception seems to be my gravel bike which will regularly cook both 180mm rotors.

Bigger rotors give you better braking, no argument.

If you're riding so slowly that you can't bed in an 8" disk, you won't be able to bed in a 6" disk either. This is just silly.
