Whenever I ride in to Liverpool from east Cheshire, I get to Daresbury on the lanes, then drop into the huge housing estate and then onto the canal at Runcorn, emerging near the bridge, over that then round and under it to join the Trans Pennine along the Mersey to get to the airport.
I've got onto the Trans Pennine earlier, from just west of Warrington but it's not something I like riding on the posh road bike - it suits the CX better as it's pretty stoney under foot. My M-i-L lives about 5 miles from the airport, and it's a good excuse to go and see her.
Can anyone suggest a route in from the south east that's on quiet-ish roads? Looking on the Sustrans website, I can't see much in the way of ideas and wondered what the locals use for clubruns etc. Obviously the M62 hard shoulder is out of the question...
