Still looking for a road bike, having now properly decided to sell off the R3 (and the associated bits I've collected) as it really is a touch too extravagent for my needs! So... have found this 2006 Viner EM2, what does STW reckon of it?

2006 980gm aluminium frame, built up with 10-speed Chorus (assume 2006?) and Ksyrium SL's (again, assume 2006?). Not sure on the fork or other bits, but will find out more tonight when I have a look and try it out for size... asking price is £580, but I reckon I might be able to get it down to around £500, does this seem fair?
Also, Viner are Italian right? Apparently this bike was ridden by Brett Perez for the Agiskoviner Team, so I guess it may have some pedigree?

Yes viner are Italian with a great pedigree. The EM2 relates to the tubing used which is deda scandium. If the bike is in good condition no dents etc and everything runs well then £500 isn't a bad price. However be aware this is a very very light alu frame so longevity and flex can be issues.

Good point, hadn't thought of that... I'm not the lightest of chaps right now (95kg), wonder if it might be [i]too[/i] lightweight for me?

Viner make nice bikes and £500+ with chorus and Ksyrium wheels would be a good buy. Regarding weight I would have thought you would be OK, race bikes are ridden a lot harder by pro's than you will probably ride it - but agreed they are 20-30kg less than you.
Anyone recognise/know anything about the 2winn (I think?) forks? Can't find anything on them... would I be better off swapping for an Easton EC90 I have?

Why don't you just buy a cheapish big name roadbike that fits you properly (ie from a shop) and is going to last a winter without too much damage, and get out and do some riding rather than pontificating about the merits of obscure and specialised components. 😆
Buy it, then think about it a lot, then decide it's not quite perfect, and you need something different, and spend ages researching that, then...

needs a gear box a hammerschmidt and a triple clamp fork ......

Basically, I've concluded that I just want a decent road bike for around £500... could buy new I guess, but it's my understanding that I'll do 'better' secondhand... don't know much about roadie stuff, so just wanting to get some opinions as to whether something I've found is good value, as I know the hive mind of STW is a boon of information and opinion... is that a crime chaps? 🙁
Wheels alone would typically sell for £200-£300 second hand.
Seems like a decent price to me.
