Slowly recovering from injury and now starting to look into fixing a few bits of my bike that need replacing. One of which is a new wheelset.

Planet x have offer on DT Swiss RR465 rims on DT 240s hubs seems like good value, but a bit of a numpty i'm not sure if they are suitable or not or if im just being dazzled by the whiteness and the money off.

Basically are these going to be strong enough for use as an 'all purpose' road wheel for a fat bastard at 80kg?

weight is
Front: 744g
Rear: 848 g
28 spokes

I weigh 95kg and not the most attentive person so my wheels get droped into potholes or veeer into drains regulalry. Wouldn't worry about 28 spoke wheels, IIRC mine are 16front 24rear.

How much are they, I was just thinking of a set of 'handbuilt' wheels for day to day use?

Someone will be allong in a minute to say open pro's on 105 hubs built by man with a beard in his shed with a very English sounding name will be all you need and the pro's only ride anything else as their sponsors force them.

£350

which on the face of it seems like great value as the hubs alone retail for more than that

I'm sure they'd be fine - 80kg is not that heavy.

Not sure they are the best value though, aren't ultegras around that weight for £250?

The hubs may cost more but they won't ride any better.

I've got Reynolds Solitudes on mine. Same price range as the Planet X ones and about 50g lighter, probably due to 20/24 spoke pattern. Like thisisnotaspoon, I'm a bit of a clumsy rider, and I weighed 98kg when I started. Down to 86kg, but the clumsiness is still there. Wheels are still running perfectly true 4 months down the line, so I'd definitely recommend them.

EDIT - 98kg?!!?! Erm... 204 lbs, whatever that is in KG.
