can anyone recommend a road route about 30-40 miles for a quick blast at the weekend, staying in north sunderland, if it happens to pass through any of the terrible scenery up there then I'll just have to cope with that.

thanks in advance

I'd basically just go west and head towards Wooler on the minor roads, maybe via Chillingham, or you could go a bit North through Ford & Etal. From Wooler south to Ingram - taking an out and back along the valley as an option then wander back towards Seehoozes from there. No idea of the mileage but you should be able to stitch something together to fit the time you have available.

^^ yes, that. Head over towards Belford, out over the B6349 (climb) towards Wooler.

Loop around Chatton, Chillingham and then the moorland Singletrack (road) from over Hepburn Moor to North Charlton. Cross A1 to Chathill and back to North Sunderland.

Beaut.

(We used to rally these roads back in the 80s, good cycle tho’). Enjoy.

Be flexible as there are lots of flooded roads up there this week. Bring an OS map on your ride

All above are good.

Route 1 along the coast is ok.

Avoid anything involving any distance on A697 as it’s nearly as nasty as the A1.
