[Closed] road riding - wax lube and 'sticky' changing

I started using wax lube when I got a 'proper' road bike a few months ago, and currently on 'Squirt'. I find that the shifting is a bit hiesitant/sticky compared to when it has normal wet lube on. The chain is definatley stiffer, and 'stickier' than a wet slimy oily one and the cassette is quite sticky to touch

Setup is perfect, new Ultegra and all indexing/alignments etc spot on, so I'm pretty sure the only variable is the lube

I am guessing this is just the payoff for a clean drivetrain ?

al - no, chain is fine, but once its dosed up with wax it is stiffer than if it had a wet lube on it

had another wee run tonight before changing lubes. totally weird, 3 month old road bike, all ultegra with a 105 chain. seems that if all is well on small ring and bigger spockets, it need 1/4 turn on the barrel adjuster to get it to shift properly when low on the block and big ring, and vice versa.

Limits all fine, B screw off virtually whole way to keep mech close in. Very much doubt its a bent hanger as bike hasn't even been dropped. Wonder if sticky waxy chain and cassette are culprit ?

Ah - you mean the chain sticks a bit with the dry lube?

I didn't understand what you meant by stiff chain. Stiff link, yes, stiff chain, no.

Anyway...try wet lube?

Check the cable in the shifter.

I had crap shifting and found that the cable was completely chewed in the shifter. the shop must have installed it badly from new.

Put a new cable in and I kinked the new one installing it so it's not the easiest of tasks the way it's routed. Sorted the gear problems though.

carl, yes, was a new chain, so took off the factory gunk and used dry lube from there.

al, thanks - will clean it all of tomorrow and try different lube. will also look at cables MM, thanks.

B screw is as far out as it can go, which to me is right as tension wheel doesn't foul any spockets, but might try screwing it in a bit...

Aye cables worth a look. I doubt the problem is dry lube TBH.

inner checked and reseated, although it looked fine. B screw fettled and reset to where it was as it doesn't have any real effect unless wound right in, indexing reset, so will check again tomporrow and then change lube as ran out of time to degrease tonight. suppose only other thing could be the mech hanger a bit off from new..

10s yes? I've seen jagwire etc outers not be up to the job after only a few months. Shimano all the way. Hanger won't be affecting it

10 speed, yes. It's a factory build - Giant Defy Composite 1 so decent enough kit (all Shimano, incl outers) and a 2012 bike. I know indexing on 10 sp is more sensitive than 9 but just doesn't seem to settle - it's fine now in the workstand so will give it a spin tomorrow night after work. TBH it's been a bit off for last few rides, so not sure what.
