I want buy a new pair of wheels for my son's road bike. He uses 8 speed Tiagra shifters, will I be able to use an 8speed cassette on a 10 speed hub. The wheels I want to buy are Campy Khamsins. Like these http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Campagnolo-Khamsin-Pair-Road-Wheels_27175.htm

If one can't run it like that, could I use a 10 speed cassette and will it work with the 8 speed shifters, except for not shifting into the last 2 cogs?

The answer to the second part of the question is no, a 10 speed cassette will not work with the 8 speed shifters.

If the freehub body on the wheels is a 10 speed specific then you won't be able to fit an 8 speed cassette on it. My knowledge of Campag wheels is not great but the description does seem to infer they are 10 speed only so no good to you.

You won't be able to use any Shimano cassette on those wheels either as they are a Campag free hub and if you used a Campag cassette there are dramas involved in getting the indexing to work with shimano shifters.

Rockhopper, you can choose between Shimano or Campy freehub.
Thanks MrP, you're probably right, though it is not what I was hoping to hear 🙁

I thought Shimano freehubs were cross compatible 8-9-10s?

In any event, Tiagra is either 9 or 10!

Cynical-al, you are right, it is 9 speed, and I found a link to Campagnolo Tech section and it would appear that the freehub will work fine with a 8,9 or 10 speed cassette 🙂
5.3 - 8S, 9S, 10S SPROCKETS FROM SHIMANO INC. and SPROCKETS
FROM SRAM CORPORATION (on the Campagnolo® freewheel body
for Shimano Inc. 8/9/10s sprockets and Sram OG 1070 - OG 1090
sprockets)

The majority are but there are a few out there that are shorter and hence 10 speed specific. Dura Ace 7800 for example. Like I said, my knowledge of Campag wheels is not great and the advert did intimate at being a 10 speed only body. It is good news that it is not.

That's odd... I use 9s ergo, 8s shimano cassette and shimano rr mech 8or 9s...is road 10 different?)

then again a mate used a different combo again which worked.
