Hi

My nephew is obsessed with my road bikes and wants one of his own, his dad, knowing my cycling obsession, has asked if I can recommend a new or second hand road bike that he can get him.

He's not overly tall and I would recommend a 16'' wheel bike (my 6 year old is riding a 16'' Specialized at present and it fits him well)as being best for him but can't see anything out there that is a 'road' bike (he wants 'curly' (drop)) handlebars.

I'll end up recommending something that is a road type flat bar kids bike rather than a mountain type kids bike as a compromise but wondered if anyone else out there knows of a road bike for this age of kid??

Thanks

Frog do one. 20" wheel about same as 16" hybrid.
It is pretty small.
your right though.
I don't like to see a 6 year old limited on a road bike, or anywhere near a road though. I think my 6 year old is amazing to watch riding but a road bike stops him being able to express himself on the bike which is why he likes it. Surely road riding is dull for 6 year olds.

frog road 58 https://www.frogbikes.com/lightweight-kids-bikes/road-bikes/frog-road-58.aspx

or 67 if he's a "tall" 6 year old https://www.frogbikes.com/lightweight-kids-bikes/road-bikes/frog-road-67.aspx

we sell lots of these, especially as they come with a set of cross tyres too

or the range of "hybrid" bikes with flat bars and mtb shifter also come with on or off road tyres

Thanks

Looks like 20'' is the only option and think it may be a bit big for him at the moment too.

Saw a Frog 58 on Gumtree earlier for a good price but on checking with his dad it's prob to pricy for what he wants to pay. They look really nice.

Think I'll switch my focus to a 16'' wheel hybrid bike recommendation and suggest he looks for a road bike as the next upgrade.

Just build up a mountain bike, but with some drop bars?

It'll be a lot more versatile and easy to use.
Doubt at 6 years he'll notice the difference, he'll just want a bike that looks like that guy off the tele

You could build him one...

Single speed might not be too pricey, 20" still smallest though.

I've got one of these. He got it when he was six and a half and loved riding it in junior crits. It's a great wee bike. I may be interested in selling.
