[#13535506]

9 speed XT

18.5” 853 frame - 25th anniversary edition

Fox Talas fork

Hope brakes and hubs

Turbine chainset

26” wheels obvs

great condition

I keep getting analysis paralysis tbh

sell as is?

what rigid fork would fit?

convert to 650b/ gravel- bikepacker? (Partner is 5’ 4” and would love a gravel bike tbh)

No idea of value, but it’s still a great bike and should be getting used

I wouldn't bother 650b/rigid, I'd just reimagine it as your gravel/bikepacking bike in your head rather than actually change anything.  If you must then any 80-100mm sus-corrected 26" fork will be close enough with a 650b wheel up front, I'd not bother out back.

Not sure at 5ft4 your partner would ever fit it, the usual bodge for a monstercross is to go down a frame size to get something around the same top tube length as a road bike, and then make up for it with the extra reach to the drops.

This is a great stealth ad. You're going to catfish some of the pervs on here with those bar-ends.

Convert to 1x then ride it. What a lovely bike

Actually just ride it. When components wear out, then go 1x

I've got some of those barends and they feel lovely to grip onto on the big hills climbs. 😁

Pervy enough? 😉

I was lucky and bought a half price Sram "non boost" 1x12 group set from Wiggle just before they went pop.

My MK1 Soul, with some narrower tyres than it once had, with it's 140 Pike turned down to 120 makes a great shopping bike.

I had one exactly like yours, similar build. sold it to a mate and it's still his main bike. Last year he rode it at BPW. Got some funny looks 😀

(I don't think he needs another btw)

Get it on retrobike. Old bikes are lovely to look at but awful to ride in comparison to newer stuff (sorry retrobikers).

Ok - here’s where I usually stumble: if I’m changing/upgrading the group set, what will fit? Hope 9-speed hubs/freewheel at present.

1x appeals.

no idea about chain line compatibility on an older frame?

Easy, a non-boost NX groupset works perfectly on a bike built for 3x9.

I bought the whole groupset in a box (cranks, cassette, mech, shifter and cables) and all I had to do was get the correct Dub BB and I've got super shifting.
