Thinking of heading over that way at the weekend for the first time but dont want to spend a couple of hours riding around a 'tame' route.
My local trail is the belmont descent to white coppice route and im after something similar around the areas stated above.
any advice from those ITK would be much appreciated ๐
belmont descent
I don't 'get' why people like that. The shorter but sweet 'chute' off the back of Winter Hill is stunning compared. Belmont/San Marino is just a wide open long moorland track IMO.
Blue Pig, Peckett Well (A & B) to name but 2 (and a bit) well known Calderdale classic descents. Problem is, it's not always easy to link trails unless you know which ones you want to ride and where they are on the relevant OL map. Or you have a local guide, or you join a clued up group ride.
Lots of Calderdale is technical, you shouldn't need to ride alot of humdrum between the steeps & the steps.
who says ive never done it !,,, i just prefare the belmont linked with great hill for my local blast,,, if i had typed 'shorter but sweet route' i dont think i would have got as many replys,,,,, SHeeeesh !
Naran,,, thanx for the info ๐

Your riding the wrong track Mark.
San Marino taken at speed is one of the best descents in England... Lakes included.
+ 1
Its saving grace is its length. The chute going the other way - if anywhere near the same length would be biblical compared.
you have to get the last word dont you ๐

dont be silly the shoulder is good but to describe the 1.5 mile long san marino with its drop offs as just a wide open track is utter BS of the highest order. did you gop back down the road by mistake?
It is one of the finest flat out fast rutted drop off /step fest available and is amongst the best natural trail available. It is also a nice testing uphill climb if you have the legs to conquer it.
