[Closed] Ring-a-din-ding, recommend me a rim?

Replacing cracked LB rim and from what I've seen they're just not suited to rocky AM/DH riding when used in the rear. Ergo, what's the bee's knees in metallic rimmery these days? I'd rather ding than crack.

I've found Pacentis to be made of cheese and would Ideally like something a bit lighter than flows.

WTB and Spank's offerings look interesting. Any others?

I've always found Mavic rims to be super strong and durable above any others.

Mavic EN or EX series for strength, they can weigh a bit though.

DTSwiss EX471....I believe it's what a lot of the WC downhill guys use, Gwin's infamous tyre-less run from Leogang in 2014 is testament to that, it held up as he pressed on at a frightening pace without a rear tyre!
If you want more than that the FR570 is monstrously strong, a lot of the Rampage/free-ride guys use them... they are heavy though.

I actually rate Pacenti, have the TL28 on my hardtail and despite my clumsy riding I haven't broken them yet!... I'd be more than happy upgrading to the wider DL31 when the time comes.

Superstar's own rims are now getting good reviews, the Sentinel and Tactic are quality bits of kit, I can vouch for the 650b Tactics as they're on my FS, fairly light too, very tight tyre fitment...I suppose for tubeless this could be an advantage...the cheaper DS25 and EX23 are well reviewed, they're not ground breaking but they offer good weight, sturdy build and reasonable price in fairly wide-ish sizes (25mm on the DS and 23mm on the EX)....which isn't too bad when you consider Orange sell the new Five with 23mm rims and up until last year were still selling them with Mavic XM319!....just about the crappiest wheel Mavic do and only 19mm diameter.

Don't be put off by the brand, if you're just ordering a rim and having someone else build it then it doesn't matter.

Off topic, but what spec is your LB rim?
Curious as I'll take delivery of a set in the next week.

I'm basically XC more than AM, so hopefully they will be OK for me as I've had them slightly over built for my usage, I belive.

My specs are "AM" spec 26er
33mm wide, 27mm internal, giving a 3mm hookless edge each side
32 spoke pillar spokes
Hope hubs

Any advice appreciated!

Also looking for new rims.

Torn between Pacenti TL28, DL31, Superstar DS25 and Flows but those EX471s look like a winner to me

Really like the WTB Frequency. Next lighter set of wheels I build up will probably be with WTB KOMs.

Thanks for the suggestions!

chrishc777 - I found the tl28 a bit soft for a rear rim but is likely fine for xc duties

Had a pair on my old 26" and the front was fine through trips to the Alps and Torridon but the rear gave in on my first rocky ride on Skye.

mattyfez - I got the improved ones but before the Enve style deep versions came in. Still, the crack was on the rim hook through the wall so I doubt it would make all that much difference.

found my pacenti DL31's pretty bombproof. They do ding a bit running low pressures but I would much rather that than have them crack (my experience with mavic and stans) its easy enough to pull the dings out again.

Superstar Tactic are cheap, light and keep the true well but I've found them to dent pretty easy. My rear has numerous dents in although still holding air well. In fact one dent was a fold of the side, so much so I thought it dead. Some grips and force got it straight'ish.
