Im building my wife a new bike. Leisure bike based on a pinnacle cobalt frame, with 700c wheels.

The usually comes with a a short travel suss fork but I want to go with a rigid fork. I have some steel forks which will do the job for now but they are 1 1/8th straight steerer and the frame is tapered head tube and to be honest it looks crap....

This shows the fork that usually comes on the bike:

Does any one know of a rigid carbon fork or nice steel that will be about the same sort of a2c so it won't mess the geo up? I'm assuming I'll need a 29er fork rather than a cx type??

Go for something 445-460mm, ie designed for 26" sus fork replacement. The OE forks are shorter than a 29er 100mm sus fork, closer to a 26" 100mm sus fork at 475mm. CX forks will be too short as would be a 420mm Lithium fork.

Cheers jameso.

Yeah I thought the cx ones would be too short. Think I saw some 26" ones the other day but assumed they wouldn't be the right size. I'll have another look.....

A2C 480mm on the Suntour NRX by the look of it so, lets say 25%ish sag on a 63mm travel fork, puts it at circa 465-470mm A2C for maintaining geo. Depends on your budget but these eXotic look spot on at 465mm A2C...

Same on ebay:

With regard the taped headset, you can still use a 1 1/8th straight steer (like the exotic fork^) without changing the existing headset by using a reducer on the fork... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-tapered-1-5-reducer-crown/rp-prod71609

(Use the very same on my OnOne Scandal as I have rigid forks with a 1 1/8th straight steerer and my Scandal has a tapered headtube)

The straight steerer exotic forks look fine on a tapered head tube as the crown is the same as the tapered forks, just with a straight steerer plugged in instead.

Rigid forks for a 26" frame would be 420mm ac for 80mm travel, 440mm ac for 100mm travel,
