If a trail is marked on the OS map as a footpath, but has a physical signpost on it very clearly stating bridleway, which takes precedence (or do I ignore both and ask at the council offices!)?
I'd go with the sign.
go with if it looks fun to ride, ride it and say your dyslexic if people put up a fight
Could be a permissive bridleway - i.e. legally the landowner only has to allow foot traffic, but has decided that horses can ride it as well.
check your local councils or county council's definitive map, most are online now.

Though I'd just ride it.

Its a path, why are you asking? Just do it!

I had one of those days where I thought that on many an occasion. It was a great ride and a crime that some of those paths were "cheeky"
There's atrial I use occasionally that's the other way round signed as FP, but marked as BW...Either way I ride it...
I'd go with whichever one says 'bridleway'.
You look at the signs before riding a trail?!
