I'm off to Weston-super-Mare for the weekend for a family event, taken the bike in the van and was wandering if there is any riding around in the Mendips area??

Looking for something more than just a xc loop, is there anything there similar to the enduro stuff at FOD?

There's a load of decent riding in the Mendips, but realistically you'd need a local with you to get the most out of it. The trails also suffer really badly in wet weather.

Worlebury Woods are on top of a hill right next to the town, and there are a couple of decent places to play in there, including a jumps area and pump track on the western end.

Around rowberrow is good. Some nice xc trails around the trig point plus some downhill tracks in the woods to the west. As above its a bit tricky to find the good bits but Strava will help, does suffer in the wet.

Not too far to the quantocks which are great and much better than the Mendips if it's wet.

I'm not sure what 'more than just an XC loop' means, but as has been said above, you need a local guide and a healthy disregard of RoW legislation to get the best from the Mendips.

If 'more than just an XC loop' means you fancy yourself an Endoorohero™, Rowberrow has plenty of DH lite style fall line trails that will keep you amused for an afternoon. They're all au natural though, and are already pretty mucky. Mendips are generally best experienced when dry. If you're uncomfortable on slippery rock and roots, you might not like it.

The fastest steepest, scariest DH trail I know is actually in Weston woods, but it's a singular entity buried in deep thicket on the north side of the hill on clay.

If you're down for the weekend I guess you only have a few hours. If it were me, I'd grab my hardtail and follow my nose on the bountiful Singletrack to be found in Weston woods, or cut holes in a bin bag, put it on and hit up Rowberrow where all the cool kids go.
