Having a bit of a career crisis and thinking about doing something big to do something useful with the free time/build a sense of achievement while I decide how I want to earn a living for the rest of my life.
Have a vague idea about doing a circumference of the UK - big touring trip basically.
Any idea if a route's been plotted like the LEJOG, how far and where to get the info from?
Josie Dew "Slow Coast Home" for England and Wales.
Richard Guise "From the Mull to the Cape" for the West coast of Scotland.
I'm sure someone has done the whole trip - maybe Bettina Selby.
Have you tried the CTC? This is right up their street.
It was done as an organised ride last year over the course of about 80-100 stages. I'll try and dig the route out on Monday.
I think only one perosn actually rode every single stage but he was joined en route by others who did a day or a week or whatever.
Edit: OK it was inspired by this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2009/nov/08/mike-carter-britain-cycling in 2009 but the organised ride was done in 2010...
Edit 2: Link to the event: http://www.thegreattour.org/
try this a guy called nick hand did it for charidee mate.
As in around the coastline ? All 11,073 miles of it ? Spot on. Sounds ace.

With a few sea crossings you could ride the circumference of the earth in 11,073 miles! I know which sounds better in the pub.
That looks great - I've been planning on doing the circumference of Wales, but round Britain would be an amazing ride.
Crazy-legs - do you know if they are doing it as a tour again this year? Or in 2012?
Any route info much appreciated.
Sue - not sure actually, I never heard much about it after the initial launch. Drop me an email on Monday to remind me and I'll enquire...
Hmm, I dreamed last night that I met someone doing exactly that. He said he was cycling the exact circumference but when I hooked up with him he was cheating by using some forest roads several miles inland.
He also had some kind of support person with him - who weirdly seemed to be on foot, so not sure how supportive he really could've been.
And he said he as going to sprint up every 'short' hill so he could continue his equivalent of interval training. I joined him on a climb and we both did that for a bit before he disappeared into the distance.
I then ended up trying to get people out of a car that had crashed on a road because of flooding. Oddly the water kept rising until it was as high as the tree tops - so it was like being underwater but on land. Weird.
Good luck anyway.
circumference or perimeter?
my first STW pedentry LOL
