Off on holiday in a few weeks to Tyndrum. Middle of nowhere relaxation with the wife and the hounds!

Am going to take a bike though, so was wondering if anyone has recommendations for some good riding in the area. Is WHW any good?

The OS maps are on order, but any advice beyond that? I couldn't actually find many 'trails' per se when I looked at the OS data online at 'Wheresthepath'

I know access rights are different in Scotland, but do the OS maps still show footpath/bridleway etc?

Cheers folks

Rich

You could do the WHW all the way from there to Fort Bill, with probably just a push up the devils staircase.

There's plenty of riding around that area. Have a look at the OS maps when you get them and plot some potential routes and then ask on here about their viability - someone will have done them!

OS maps will show the paths - no bridleways up here. There will also be paths not shown on the map and those shown can be hit and miss. Again, ask on here.

Was there just the other week, it certainley is the middle of nowhere - infact I would describe it more as a road junction with an overpriced services, a Tourist information and a very very good fish and chip shop than a settlement as such.

We rode from there on the WHW to Bridge of Orchy then went from Bridge of Orch on a fantastic wild country route following 4x4 trails and other tracks cutting directly through to Loch Etive and then following the loch bank into Taynult. Then the train (only three a day) back to Tyndrum.

A big but brilliant day out. There are some wet feet river crossings that were knee high when we were there following some rain so not one to do it has been raining consistently for several days I guess.

keppoch.

One of my favourite sections of the WHW is Crianlarich to Tyndrum, a very nice descent before the wee flat stretch to Strathfillan.

Also nice is the Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy section (well, it gets a bit boring for the last 5km or so) and you could then return via the waymarked forestry trails in Glen Orchy itself (worth a visit anyway to see the gorge).

A longer day out would be to head for Killin (maybe get dropped off) and ride through Glen Lyon, past Loch Lyon, and descend onto the WHW from Loch Lyon, to then ride back on the WHW to Tyndrum.
