I see so many people riding without helmets done up... mostly school kids and people on BSOs.

The whole helmet debate aside, if you are going to wear one, why the hell would you not do it up? Its not going to stay there by magic, and you have done the hard bit by sticking it on your melon - do the strap up you fool!

I like the way he's pointing to where the helmet strap fits just to emphasise the point, what a guy!

the best bit is he is also wearing an expensive neck brace aswell! that'll work as intended as his helmet flys off ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought he was pointing where his face was about to 'plant'.

But seriously - it's his braking position, surely. He just hasn't realised he's let go of the bars yet...

Perhaps he just realised when he was falling over that his head wasn't in danger so he was just taking his helmet off? ๐Ÿ™‚

There's a good reason why you'll be disqualified at a DH race for not having a strap done up. Helmet straps are there for a reason!

Apparently one is not permitted to stand in the uplift queue without wearing one's helmet. Falling over while wearing a neck brace but not a helmet increases the risk of one breaking one's neck.

is it that DH races are a H&S/redtape nightmare?

It only works properly if it is fitted properly.

I have also heard that if you have a neck brace on then you also need to have your helmet on as well. I think that the local events will disqualify you if seen not doing so.

I think he is still feathering the brakes... ๐Ÿ™‚

No gloves - personal preference.

Some will be padded up like cotton wool, but hate the feel of gloves.

As my sons snowboard instructor always says....

What is a helmet that is not done up?

It's nothing more than a hat they can use to scope your brains up with!

My son now never forgets....

Hello ๐Ÿ™‚

I reakon more than half the mtbers I see have their helmet straps very loose or the helmet otherwise badly fitted even at GT and the like

When I wear a helmet I have the strap done up tight and I spent ages adjusting the straps to get it to fit properly

When you don't wear a helmet do you promise not to crash?

What about all the guys I see all the time with the buckle closed but the strap still dangling loosely under the chin? Apart from slipping off in a crash it might as well strangle you in the process. I find that pretty daft, too.
And surprisingly common.

Like I tell people, if you can eat a mars bar with your helmet on then your straps are too loose!
