My one has developed some up/down play when its locked, not twisting from loose keys or bouncing from air in the oil.

Any ideas what to do? cant find this problem in all the other threads.......

A complete strip down looks ok (shame this vids in french) but would prefer a quick fix hahah

also....... should I replace the keys with the next size up??

thanks

You mean you can compress the post down by a few cm when it's in the up position?

Mine was a warranty repair for that. New version internals, I believe.

No mine already when back for repair for that bounce/compression problem!

It has a little play, maybe 1mm that feels like worn keys but its i the up/down axis

If it's a 'mechanical' up and down movement that doesn't spring back: Check that the circlip at the bottom of the post (that holds the innards together) hasn't rusted away.

Don't mess with the keys unless you have a specific problem to solve.

Is it just fore and aft play that feels like up/down?  In that case it's bushes (mainly the top one I believe).  Rockshox has, or had, full videos of a strip and rebuild, in English, on their youtube channel.

yep its 'mechanical'  - I will give the C clip a check as going to service some of the post anyway

Pretty sure the bushes are ok and it's an axial movement so I guessed something to do with the locking mechanism??

Sorry Rockshox not watched your vids as I was anticipating advice to buy specialist tooling!! (unlike the French dude in the video above)

something to do with the locking mechanism?

There is no locking mechanism, as such - it's all hydraulic.

But..... if the mechanical piece that was holding the hydraulic lock was loose??

Anyhow I had a closer check and it could be worn bushings.

Do they wear out faster than fork bushes?

>>>>>>>> Is there any reason not to replkace the upper bush if I have the post apart for a service?

Sorry Rockshox your video was decent (apart from the vet syringe!!!)

Waht are the alternatives to that? How far down does it go for a Reverb Stealth

But….. if the mechanical piece that was holding the hydraulic lock was loose??

Then the post would be in two pieces -  The housing for the poppet valve is machined into the top of the seatpost.

Is there any reason not to replkace the upper bush if I have the post apart for a service?

Only money.

You don't need to disturb the oil / air side of things for a mechanical service, btw.
