Finished this last night and it had its first outing this morning.
Its a 1992 Cannondale m800 Beast of the east, 15". With suntour xc comp groupset xt parralel v brakes, marin bars, and some purpleness. Well impressed with the tyres they are NOS folding IRC Mythos which i got brand new for £13 delivered for the pair.
The missus looked at it, and came out with something that I will remember fondly "your in for a right anal mauling, i'll put sudocrem on the list shall i?"
I was expecting the ride aftermath to unpleasantly Barrymorish, but it rides surprisingly well, I did 20 miles and apart from a slightly numb thumb i can still walk and everything.
The gearing although original works like a dream, wheels are silent and fantastic (parrelax hubs, mavic sup rims), and it fits me perfectly.
It weighs 22lbs
The full build including a ti seatpost on its way to me, set me back £205..
I am pretty chuffed
Come on then out with the anti-retroism, im retrosexual and proud of it!

wrong brakes! get canti's on that pronto.
I used to sell Cannondales back in the day, great bikes.
yup
im on the look out for some purple nice cantis, and a decent 110mm silver light 1 1/4 stem if anyone has one
V brakes and parralax hubs? You need older apple core and some 987's
there was a nice set of apple core hubs on london gumtree a while back, probably sold now though... nice lookng bike Tim 🙂
What pedals are those?
Time Atacs I'm pretty sure?
pedals are look quartz, i only have one set which i use on all my bikes at the moment, could do with some more of these too
not in the least retro pedals, but they are the best i have ever used.
cheers psycle! if only i had some star spangled shifters 🙂
Thanks to your thread ive just ordered some skin walls for my 85 Muddy Fox Courier from Bikeplus- £10 the pair, cheers 😮
still got 3 of my old dales. the paintwork puts modern bikes to shame!
No it's rubbish you don't want it really I can tell so give it to me instead.
I have toyed with stripping my Cannondale frame down and polishing up the alu. Seeing this makes me want to do that even more...
thats the place, next day delivery too, brilliant!
you could make money buying in bulk and selling to dayglo lycra wearing europeans i reckon!
do it fred, bit of duraglit job done.
(the guy i bought it off <FOR THIRTY POUNDS!!> had it stripped professionally tho)
Blimey, that takes me back... I had one of those with the frame & forks in a metallic purple paint (rather than the more common red). I wasn't an ano-finish person, so most of the bits were fairly low key, but I recall various upgrades; Syncros seatpost, Flite Ti saddle, Gripshift SRT500, Dia-compe SS5 levers, Tioga Psycho tyres. The one concession to its purpleness was a pair of long, wiggly Coda XYZ bar ends wrapped with black and purple cammo bar tape...
Long gone now though - it got nicked from my house at university 18 months after buying it...
not in the least retro pedals
I seem to recall mine coming with Tioga Surefoot IV pedals (how is it that I can remember this stuff when I have trouble recalling what I had for breakfast this morning?)
I always expect beasts to have maguras on them...
Also, sure the missus wasn't just upset you'd got another bike? 😉 😯
I don't like skinwalls or purple. Other than that, there's a lot to like.
THIRTY POUNDS
Bastard. 👿
Isn't that a front Mythos on the back? I remember when the BotE came with a small back wheel.
Re back tyre, dunno looking at it they both have fk as a product number so probly, wont affect my bridleway bimbling much though i wont be taking this to cannock it should cope at mountain keynes (woburn) too.
Does anyone know anything about a bike called a mount shasta ( or something like that, it was my first sighting of a mountain bike at 15, and
the reason for my bike issues in later life i think...
was going to say the mythos is the wrong way round at the back but thinking about it were they front a rear versions?
*sheds a nostalgic tear*
I'll have a look in the loft. Pretty certain mythos was a front and rear tyre.
The pair of Mythos' that came on my '97 Trek were F&R specific, the rear had a paddle-esque tread with a file tread between the main blocks IIRC. 😉
The Beast of the East was the first bike I properly lusted after. Not jealous. No, not a bit.
Tim, I think the Mount Shasta was a Diamond Back. Other thought is that it was a KHS, but don't think so.
And I always used to run Mythos front and back circa 1998, but as the Militant Biker says, there was a front and back specific.
To me purple ano always tends to look a bit, well, y'know, "Ann Summers"
Nutt, praps thats what the missus meant with the sudocrem....
what you need to round it off, other than the obvious brakes, is a girvin flexstem. Then it'd look proper & you mightn't end up with numb hands either.
Looks sweet , but you could do with some decals to finish it off.
Hmmm the wanted listed is growing
Purple cantis
Original cannondale dcals
Light 1/4 stem
Redhead italian? dancer off of strictly
Hmmm the wanted listed is growing
Get yourself over to retrobike , you should get the parts you need although they'll probably cost more than you might think!!
My mate has built a retro GT Zaskar L.E. with a complete M900 xtr groupset and got most of the bits to complete the build there , It looks nearly mint.

Ringle Zooka stem is whats needed there I think. Maybe a syncros cattleprod or for comedy effect a flexstem.
Dia Compe 987s would fit well too for the brakes or perhaps Graftons.
You're not far off being retro with the pedals though as looks first double sided clipless pedals were out shortly after !
There's a set of mavic cermic x517's on fleabay that woudl go well too and make up for some of the lack of braking power by going to cantis
+2 needing the decals back on 🙂
grow up with fond memories of cannondale's with there os tubing 🙂 nice bikes back then...
Nice build, but what's with the purple dildos on the ends of the bar?
Those chrome decals look fantastic! Well done.
Fro the chap who's after an 1 1/4" stem above, I may soon have a silver 100mm Coda stem thats surplus to requirements. Is this any good for you?
Tim, that looks the dog's bollocks mate. Really subtle, and classy.
You bastard. I want to strip my frame down now. You've opened up a whole world of pain for me.... 👿
Billysan yes thats perfect!!!!!
Mail me timdrayton@live.co.uk
nearly finished, build budget has gone through the roof, i decided to lose the barends, and the cables havent been trimmed as i might put some different cantis on, and the stem will be swapped as soon as i can find a decent 100 - 110 mm reach zero rise stem in nickel finish (cough, anyone? ive given up on finding a 1 1/4" quill so ahead stems retro pls!)
If the artist formerly known as Prince had a bike it would be this one, he liked his purple, I am reminded of that film about pimps, Im gonna get you sucker, where the guy goes "I OG'd man, I over golded" only I OP'd....
had to lose the barends, they were too much, i would have had to get spd shoes with fish in them.

Tim
How long is that current stem?
Looks about 120mm ?
If so yo9u won't gain anything by going to 110 mm zero rise as it'll probably be about the same reach.
Keep an eye on the jockey wheels in the mech too as the nylon they are made from gets eaten by the bushings very easily
Shit off that's nice.... 🙂
I am reminded of that film about pimps, Im gonna get you sucker, where the guy goes "I OG'd man, I over golded" only I OP'd....
Over-Purpled! 😆
Cureent stem 100, had 110 zero rise and it was perfect, but ugly, cheers for the tip on the jockeys!
Fred, "that bitch better have ma money, not some not half but all my caaash"
Tim reflects that it might be time he updated his wardrobe...
I'm liking the whole retro thing. Mates just built up a cannondale super v, or similar (not sure exactly which) with all purple parts. Lovely.
Not quite as retro, but I've just acquired a 98 M2 S-works frame. Top or the shopping list is a pair of Manitou SX in red.
think just wet myself over that zaskar.
Carlosg, if thats your mates exact bike and he ever wants to sell it then............
