wouldnt bother going local or 'cheap' as it only costs about 20quid to post a frame, and you need an expert job done if the some of the 'powder coat=cracked frame' horror storys are to be believed

check out dave yates or argos racing as i belive they are the experts and both charge around about 160quid.

their is a firm in london that has a clear but coloured laquer option (think on-one 456 raw) my brothers pal had his frame done in a clear metalic copper type colour,,,,, looked amazing.

will try and find details if your interested.

Although Argos crops up in these threads more often than not.. i cant sit here and not say anything. They resprayed a few frames back around 2008 and the paint chipped off with ease. The size of the chips were a bit of a problem so they had to be resprayed.

That was a while ago now and i can only say that i hope (for the mountain bikes that need a tougher paint job than all the road bikes they have had no trouble with over many years)that they have changed their prep of the frames, painting technique, paint type, application, baking or whatever it was that they used back then.

To look at,they do a lovely job,but i can only hope they have changed their ways for aluminium frames as it was either too brittle or just didnt stay attatched well enough due to other probs.

Fingers crossed.Lets hope they powdercoat or something!

'powder coat=cracked frame'

Is this true? I have not heard of it. Had 4 frames powdercoated (3 mtb, 1 road) and never had a problem. £25 all in for f+f strip and coat seems better value than £160 to ride through mud.

CJ Ward in Burton. Only used them for wet painting through work, but heard that he does powder also & does a good job. If you bake an alloy frame above 200c it can weaken it, but depends how much heat its been subjected to during mfr.

Depends how they remove the old paint and how hot they bake it. If they blast and then heat a frame that is nearing the end of it's life it would hasten its demise. If its a steel frame then no problem but I'd be more nervous about a light alu frame.
