Has anyone done this? I really like the new SLX cranks but the bash guard just looks like the guards you get on £100 pub car park special bikes...

I'd guess it's not going to be rocket science.

I had a close look at the SLX double & bash's guard in the LBS the other day and thought the same thing - doesn't exactly compliment the chainset.

Fortunately it looks like any would fit, I'd be looking at a clear polycarb one from ethirteen or something I reckon.

However, when browsing the other day I came across a bashguard that said something along the lines of "SLX compatible (with cutout)" which made me think it might not be totally straightforward. Wish I could remember which one.

It is pretty straightforward (in theory*) I'm running a Gamut one on mine. Quite a chunk lighter and (imo) looks better.

*until you find that Shimano have cross threaded the bolts, the rear nuts are made of cheese so strip out despite using a proper c-ring bolt tool and you have to drill 3 out of the 4 bolts out of a brand new crank...

Erm, it's a bashguard. i.e. it's meant to take nocks and get ruined. What's the point in changing it until it's had it? Rearrange these words

than
sense
more
money

😉

Because the other ones are shinier. How much are the gamuts? Their stuff is pretty light isn't it?

Its easy but from memory you need torx key thingys as shimano have decided not to use allen key bolts. I had to remove the inner ring as well as some of the bolts securing the outer ring were behind the teeth of the inner ring, if you get my drift.
