MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Hi all,
The PF30 BB on my 2017 Boardman CX Team (red/black one : https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/boardman-cx-team-bike-50-53-55-5-57-5cm-frames) has started creaking.
I would really like to upgrade to a threaded BB with a conversion kit, and have googled around loads, but still a bit confused. I am aware that:
a. some Boardman BB shells are not the same diameter all the way through, limiting what conversion kits fit
b. I don't want to have to change my crank set.
Are there any BBs/conversion kits which will work for me?
Thanks,
Duane.
This looks like it could work:

Is a run of the mill LBS likely to have the special fitting tool?
Watching this thread ... Wife's Boardman CX is doing the same.
Is it a home DIY-able job to remove, regrease etc, and does that solve it, even if only temporarily. Or do you need loads of different tools to external threaded BBs (which we have on all our other bikes)?
My old boardmann CX team runs a praxis bottom bracket converter. Never a creak out of it with dura ace 7700 cranks. Recommended.
Before you rush to change your BB try taking it all apart greasing everything in sight then putting it back together. My 2014 Team started creaking after a few months but after I greased it all it has been fine and I ride off road in terrible muddy gritty conditions.
Is the crankset 30mm op?
I may well be wrong but if it is and you want to fit a converter they all reduce the spindle down to 24mm..... *I think?* Requiring a new crankset?
Unless the press fit already fitted already has a reducer down to 24mm or such??
Someone more knowledgeable than i will be along later in the thread I'm sure! Lol
I put a hope pf 46 in mine 7000km ago not a squeak or creak since. Check stuff like mech hanger and chainring bolts before you write the bb off tho.
Thanks for the replies all.
I guess first question should have been about the cranks - is the crank spindle length different for different types of BBs? ie if I get the Rotor/Praxis type convertors which allow me to have an external BB, do I then need a crank with a longer spindle? Or is there space to squeeze in an external BB with current crank spindle length?
I have these cranks:

Thanks,
Duane.
I've gone Praxis works on my Boardman. No complaints here.
Hi Emmodd - can you share any more details? What bike, what Praxis BB, and what cranks?
Thanks,
Duane.
