Okay so ive got an UNO ring here to go on my RS7 ive got the ISIS spline tool on and the lock ring is just not budging, anyone have any tips? (Last time i did this i had a vice and a rubber mallet now i have neither)
hot air gun/hairdryer to heat it all up a bit. They're all the same material but the expansion and contraction might help loosen it.
As you say, though, putting the tool in a vice and using the crank arm as a lever is probably the best way. LBS?
Mine was f ing tight. But no special tool here. Crank arm in vice. Screwdriver and big hammer removed no problem.
Wouldn't trust my LBS as far as i could throw them unfortunately.
At this rate i may up just getting an unramped ring to go on my existing spider but have you tried getting a CD 5 bolt ring there like hens teeth.
Where in uk are you. Im sure someone with a vice will be willing to help.
Warm it up, they're usually threadlocked.
Saw the Surly which would be perfect if i wasn't doing a 1x9 build. Thanks wwaswas and Tim, im going to try some application of heat on saturday, if its a no go im going to bite the bullet with the LBS.
I used a nut and bolt to clamp the whole thing together, as I found the biggest problem was the tool being a little too tall to get good leverage without it camming out.
I then used an effing great ring spanner and it came apart with a bit of effort.
Have done a couple this way now...
Any luck? I have the tool and know-how if you are local (south Lincs)
Not yet Andy but ive been at work, ill take another go at it tomorrow. Otherwise im in Market Deeping on Sunday anyway if i can take you up on your offer (how south lincs are you?)
I'm between Grantham and Bourne so not miles away. I'm out at a time-tial Sunday morning but around all afternoon.

.
I've had a job getting mine off before but managed it in the end without damaging anything (a concrete floor was involved as a rest so it did leave scratches, hope you aren't bothered about that?)
Lol okay concrete floor wasnt what i had in mind but thanks for the offer. Ill go with the LBS at least if they ***k it up the come backs on them.
Okay best of both worlds went to an LBS i never usually go in and they showed me to the tools and left me to it, 5 minutes later the spider was off.
