hot air gun/hairdryer to heat it all up a bit. They're all the same material but the expansion and contraction might help loosen it.

As you say, though, putting the tool in a vice and using the crank arm as a lever is probably the best way. LBS?

Mine was f ing tight. But no special tool here. Crank arm in vice. Screwdriver and big hammer removed no problem.

Wouldn't trust my LBS as far as i could throw them unfortunately.

At this rate i may up just getting an unramped ring to go on my existing spider but have you tried getting a CD 5 bolt ring there like hens teeth.

Warm it up, they're usually threadlocked.

I used a nut and bolt to clamp the whole thing together, as I found the biggest problem was the tool being a little too tall to get good leverage without it camming out.

I then used an effing great ring spanner and it came apart with a bit of effort.

Have done a couple this way now...

I'm between Grantham and Bourne so not miles away. I'm out at a time-tial Sunday morning but around all afternoon.
email address in profile.
.
I've had a job getting mine off before but managed it in the end without damaging anything (a concrete floor was involved as a rest so it did leave scratches, hope you aren't bothered about that?)
