I need to remove a Shimano ES-25, Octalink Spline, cartridge bearing from a bike before I install a HTII BB. I cannot get hold of the correct tool.

Could I just bodge it out?

probably not with any certainty of having a useable set of threads in the BB shell aftewards.

take frame to a bike shop and ask them to do it.

failing that a hammer and cold chisel might work but if it doesn't you'll be stuffed as the normal tool wouldn;t fit either.

cynic-al I think it's the BB that's being removed, not the crank arms?

It's just a standard cartridge BB remover once you've got the cranks off, there must be someone you could borrow one from. If you bodge it and mash the splines you could be in trouble (and it's likely to be pretty tight). I don't think that the ES25 has cuts in the collar to take an external tool.

OK that's it - I'll try and ask around for a tool.

No bodge need - local mate has one.
