27.5 plus hardtail came as factory specced with 140mm forks
If I reduce the travel to 120mm this will make it climb better but descend worse
Right?
Any other negatives?

That's pretty much it. Will also lower the BB slightly.

Twitchier handling. Better or worse depending on what you want.
