Prepare to have all the usual recommendations.

Is there anything else you want in your holiday?

Excellent warm weather in July and based on the coast in Southern Spain.
Great singletrack rides during the day & lively night life on the coast at night.

Went with sierracycling last spring and it ticked all those boxes - the guides judged the trails well for the group - demanding at times but never 'unrideable', and somehow managed to end the rides at the ice cream parlour.

Checkout "Mountain Biking Spain", they have a femail guide and showed us a variety of trails to suite any ability from newbie novices to the self harming.
Most importantly they tailored the routes to suite the customer.

I'm going to Ciclo Montana in the first full week of July.

They're always a good bet and they seem to manage the balance between tricky riding that you can just about manage but with the odd extra tricky section to test you out - they're the bits I normally go straight over the bars at!

My only worry this year is that it might be a bit too hot - we've only been in late April/early May before.

I recommend you take loads of sun cream at that time of year.

If you don't like the heat, look at the north of Spain. Southern Spain will be very hot.

I'm really looking forward to your coaching week here, Jedi and showing you some of the trails!

There's a review of BasqueMTB in STW (October 2009 I think) and I think that Mark and Sanny enjoyed it, Sanny's certainly posted some good reviews on here. Dirt also rated us as one of the top 50 places in Europe (December 2009 maybe) but that would be more for natural DH and we can certainly do "not too technical but hard enough"! Temperatures on the coast here are usually about mid twenties at that time. You can see the idea on BasqueMTB if you want!

A timely thread this one - I was just about to post something similar!

I am going to be working in Almeria for 3 weeks in April / May and want to fit some riding in.

I'll probably only be free on weekends but will have a car so I'll be able to get about - I won't be stuck in Almeria.

I was going to take my bike out there but I'm not sure exactly where I'll be going - don't want it going walkies whilst I'm not around, so I'll be looking to hire one. I see Sierra hire but is this the norm?

Any advice much appreciated 🙂

Neil.

Basque country - Not just good riding and nice weather.
Great places to visit, like San Sebastian and Bilbao, there's loads of festivals going on in July.
Excellent food and wine. Excellent beaches that are far better than the one darn sarf.

I live there.

Hey Trekster, thats me and my ex-girlfriend riding in your 3rd picture. I remember taking you out on some of the tracks up near Mijas and the old film set of Eldorado! I Guided for Sierra Cycling for 2 seasons and cant recommend the service that Alan and his team provide enough. They manage to bend over backwards to accomodate all levels of fitness and technical ability and even cater for non-cyclists with the pool and sandy beach at there disposal.

A holiday with Sierra Cycling will have you wanting to go back again and ride all the stuff you couldnt squeeze in in a weeks holiday.

Matt
