Any recommendations much appreciated - I'm after a standard external headset with a split crown race so I can switch easily between rigid and sus forks.
I believe the Nukeporrf Warhead has a split race, as do the (newer?) Hope ones. Any other thoughts?
Cheers
Los

FSA usually have split races. Make sure it's pukka aftermarket though.

Or just make your own split race. Has been a couple of threads on here recently

Hope definitely do. I just cut a slot with a hacksaw in the race of my £20 FSA orbit and that has worked fine for 2 years.

What DT78 says, just cut through the standard crown race. Watch your fingers, it's not as easy as you think, those races are pretty tough metal!

The Hope I picked up recently certainly has.

IF you want to do it cheaply, just pick up the Hope lower cup, that comes with the crown race included, for less than half the price, and keep your existing upper.

nother vote for hacksaw here. It's too easy to start spending money on anything else. 32 tpi metal cutting blade, pliers and bit of cloth to grip (or fingers) and a bit of wood or something to rest it on. Although if you've got a vice, you're laughing.

I think FSA also have spare crown races at CRC, so if you don't want to cut it just buy an additional race for the other fork.

I cut mine, it hasn't proved an issue.

I cut my FSA - it's not a bearing surface so you lose nothing but a bit of sealing.

Get a Hope. After all, why wouldn't you want a Hope headset?

After all, why wouldn't you want a Hope headset?

The incessant creaking, mainly, although the price comes into it a bit.

Never had a problem with the one I ran for 7 years untouched on my last bike. No creaking, never once came even the slightest bit loose and still had silky smooth bearings. At £8.57 per year, I'd say that represents fantastic value for money.
