I need a new rear light for commuting.

I have had a couple of Cat Eye's in the past and when they are on they are bright enough but the switches always seem to be unreliable. Either they won't switch on or it is difficult to select the different modes. So I don't think it will be anymore cat-eyes.

Are any of the rear lights on deal extreme any good, they all look a bit cheap and nasty?

Was riding behind someone with an Exposure Flare the other day. Was impressed enough to chase them down to ask what he light was

I don't commute, so my rear light is only for occasional road use, but simply after years of different light the most reliable I've used as the generic kidney shaped ones. £3 from your supermarket & they just work. Several cateye ones I've had, just broke out right or stopped working on me over the years. The flare is admittely very good at making you noticed but again doesn't have the greatest reputaion for reliabilty

Moon Shield, as bright as an exposure flare give or take, recharges from USB, up to seven hours light.

Ordered a Smart Lunar R2 off On-One. Looks good value.

The Exposure and moon shield a bit too pricey.

Thanks for the help.

Do you use a rack. For me, commuting lights should be bolted to the rack. I don't rate seatpost mounting. So my primary light is one of these from Busch and Muller

true, but if you have more than one bike.you can have one light and clip it on to the one you're using.
smart r2 I think, and the 1/2w smart is nearly as good and half the cost.
nice to bolt a rear reflector onto racks though.
