Anybody got any opinions on whether the Classic is necessary if you're not in the habit of doing long days out in the winter- will the far more economical Lightweight suffice? What are the advantages of the Classic?

I hsave the classic, I think it has some extra features like the tail flap, I have only once been cold in it and that was after a several hours in continuous rain, which it didn't stand up to. If the classic is the same fabric it should be the same I think?

Thanks. the lightweight seems to be quite well priced so was wondering if it might be worthwhile.

Classic has a shoulder pad for a courier bag. I think it is more suited for city riding.

I'm plenty warm enough in a lightweight with a merino wool baselayer all through the winter.

I've also got the original classic (no pit zips) but I haven't got the lightweight so can't compare the two. It is a good price though and if they had the red in my size I would buy it. The classic is a great jacket and the new one looks even better, very tempted to buy a red one.

Sizing is a race fit though, I'm a medium in all other rapha stuff and the classic is almost like a jersey fit wise.

As above it's not in the slightest bit waterproof. And yes it does have a shoulder patch but that doesn't stop it being well suited to long winter road rides.
