Scenario 1: Buy a bike from a shop 90 miles/2 hrs away and buy Hunt carbon wheels through a very-local-to-me mate, who will fit them free as he's a Hunt dealer. 2 contacts if issues.

Scenario 2: Buy the same bike 30 miles away with Vel carbon wheels upgraded in-store, so one source for any issues. It works out £100 more here and hand on heart I'd prefer the Hunts.

We're talking around the £3.5k mark so £100 not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things (though it does buy some nice accessories etc)...

Why on earth do you need someone to install your wheels?

Does option 1 leave you with an extra set of wheels?

Either way, you want the Hunts, no point spending 3.5K and not ending up with what you wanted

Scenario 1 sees you with spare wheels if anything goes wrong with the hunts as I read it?
You can't use the wheels very easily without the bike anyhow so it's broadly irrelevant if the bike needs dealing with separate from the wheels.
How often do things go wrong?

90mi isn't that far unless you're a serial gear smasher. If you are the bigger issue is are shop 1 or 2 going to look favourably on your JRAs for longer?

Will shop 2 price match 1 on the standard wheel option?

I don't but if he's getting them in and is prepared to swap tyres over etc then why not if he's offering?

No. I can get bike 1 for £3 instead of £3.5.
Bike 2 won't go lower than £3,150...it balances out a little with the wheels.

1 gives you what you want, at a £100 better price, I'm assuming they won't ship so the 60mi difference is about £25 fuel return?

That's 4 warranty issues paid and you're happier with the product.

I'd be going for 1.
